The Mexican had controlled the race from the front after passing pole sitter Leclerc on the first corner, but was forced to sweat his victory by a post-race inquiry from the stewards for not keeping within 10 lengths safety car car.
Perez received a reprimand for the first incident on lap 10 and a five-second penalty for a second incident on lap 36, but held onto the win after crossing the line 7.6 seconds ahead of the Ferrari driver.

It capped a turbulent race stalled by two full safety car periods and three virtual safety car stints, while the Singapore GP itself was delayed by 65 minutes due to a thunderstorm flooding the track .
The result created drama aplenty as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton were the top drivers who ran off the track and dropped out of the field due to damage. It meant the Red Bull driver missed his first opportunity to twist the 2022 F1 Drivers’ World title as he could only recover in seventh place.
