Mugen has tuned and ridden Hondas for almost 30 years. With a new Civic in the mix, a Mugen version is of course in the works. Details will arrive in September, but Mugen is now offering a few teaser images showing what we can expect.
The soft body kit is easily identifiable. Basically anything black on the lower side of the car is an upgrade, including chin treatments up front with side skirts and a rear fascia that eliminates trapezoidal tailpipes. A modest spoiler sits atop the aft deck; window vents and mirror covers are added, and the Civic rolls on a sleek set of new wheels.
A brief description from Mugen tells us that these wheels are 18-inch forged aluminum with an emphasis on sporty handling. True to that theme, Mugen also mentions a sports exhaust upgrade as part of the package. It works well with the upgraded rear fairing, as the new exhaust has two oval finishes on the rear, one at each corner.
It’s definitely a performance-driven look that improves on the Civic hatchback featured above. Mugen will also offer sports mats, which the company says keep outside air out while improving ventilation. We don’t know exactly what that means, but hey, we’ll take it.
Mugen does not specify between the sedan and the hatchback for his offerings. Granted, there will be items available for both versions, but with the new Civic Hatchback being the only version offered with a manual transmission, we suspect it will receive more attention. Either way, these modest upgrades look like simple but effective fixes for those who think the eleventh-gen Civic is too conservative in styling.
We are awaiting more information on Civic Mugen, which will arrive on September 3.
