Like most of its products, Apple was not the first company to launch true wireless headphones. But when he launched the AirPods, he was immediately able to make room for them, and now Apple completely dominates the premium wireless earphone market. Naturally, many people are considering buying AirPods, including Android users, which leads to the question: Do Apple AirPods work with Android smartphones? The short answer to this question is yes, AirPods work with Android devices.
AirPods aren’t iOS-exclusive headphones. These TWS headphones can work with just about any Bluetooth enabled device. If you don’t want to ditch your Android phone just to enjoy AirPods, you don’t have to. But as you might expect, you will lose some of the AirPod features that iPhone users love, like the battery indicator and access to Siri. There are, however, workarounds to recover at least some of these features.
One of these solutions is to install an app like Assistant Trigger from the Google Play Store. It shows the battery level of AirPods and allows you to activate Google Assistant by tapping or tapping the AirPods. There’s also a pro version of the app that claims to add support for in-ear detection of AirPods, but if the Google Play store reviews are any indication, it doesn’t seem to work for everyone.
Overall, AirPods and Android are an unconventional match, but if you want to, you can make them work.
How to pair AirPods with your Android phone
Unlike an iPhone, which can be paired by simply opening the AirPods case, Android users will need to go to Bluetooth settings to connect to AirPods.
- On your Android phone, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings sign.
- Long press the bluetooth icon to open bluetooth settings. You can also access Bluetooth settings through the Settings application.
- Once you are in the Bluetooth settings you will see an option like Pair a new device. Tap on it. If you don’t see such an option, make sure Bluetooth is turned on and wait for AirPods to show under Available devices.
- Open the lid of the AirPods charging case containing the AirPods and press and hold the button on the back of the case until the light starts blinking white. If you’re using AirPods Max, take them out of the smart case and press and hold the noise control button until the light on the right earbud starts blinking white.
- Your phone will now detect AirPods and display them under Available devices. Tap on it and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the pairing process.
- You can now use them like any other TWS earphone.
You can install the Assistant Trigger app that we mentioned earlier, to see the battery level and link Google Assistant to trigger when you tap or tap the rod of the AirPods. If you want to customize the AirPods controls, you can borrow a friend or family member’s iPhone and use it to personalize them. These customizations will continue to be available on your AirPods even after you disconnect them from iPhone.
- AirPods Pro are Apple’s premium wireless headphones. These come with a new design and active noise cancellation.
