Storage, networking and security provider Synology has announced that its portable backup product, BeeDrive, now supports macOS.
The Synology BeeDrive is very simple to use and comes in the form of a small USB-powered box. Simply plug it into your computer, select the files, folders and photos you want to back up, and let BeeDrive do the rest, on demand or on a schedule. You can view the backups on any computer without special software configuration, and what’s more, you can also share the files from your smartphone.
The BeeDrive has a fast 10Gb/s USB-C connection, is drop-resistant up to two meters, contains an SSD, and is a great backup solution for experts and non-experts alike. It’s the ideal backup product for those who work with large media, those with a range of devices, and even to gift to your parents and elderly loved ones to give peace of mind to everyone in knowing they have hassle-free backups and no subscription fees.
iTWire I previously reviewed the BeeDrive when it was first released, and it’s still as easy to use and unrivaled today as it was back then. However, it now also supports macOS as well as Windows and Android.

Watch the video below to see how to use BeeDrive on your Mac; the steps are
- plug the BeeDrive into your Mac
- install the BeeDrive smartphone app
- Depending on your processor type, you need to enable “allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers” on your macOS startup disk
- under system settings, allow Synology Inc. system software to load
- enable full disk access for Synology BeeDrive
That’s it! Once done, you can easily backup your files and photos from your Mac and ensure that you are protected against disasters or accidents.
The Synology BeeDrive is available in 1TB and 2TB models.
iTWire has always been impressed by the excellent Synology operating systems on its NAS products (DSM – DiskStation Manager) and routers (SRM – Synology Router Manager), and the same thought and care has gone into creating a wonderful experience in the BeeDrive that makes secure backups a no-brainer for everyone.
