Smart TVs are all the rage in home entertainment right now, likely fueled by the accessibility of a reliable and affordable home internet, and the rise of streaming services like Prime Video, Netflix, etc.
Sonos is a fairly respected name in the home entertainment scene. This American manufacturer of audio products is probably best known for its multiroom audio products.
However, there appears to be an issue affecting users of these Sonos products. According to a section of users, Sonos speakers have an issue with the eARC feature which now means users have to deal with audio that frequently cuts out or drops out completely.
This problem has apparently been around for several months now and is affecting users of various Samsung smart TVs. Below are some of the user reports on this issue that we have encountered.
The only problem I have is when I turn off the TV at night and then turn it back on the next day, the sound will play for 5-10 seconds, then mute for 1-2 seconds repeatedly. I don’t know if it’s the TV or the Arc that is causing this problem. I deactivate Dolby Atmos compatibility in the sound menu of the television. Let it cool off. Reactivate it. And everything works again until I turn off the TV.

So I just configured the Sonos Arc soundbar which supports ARC. It works with my Samsung 65 ″ Frame 2020 TV until I change the eARC setting on the Frame TV to Auto. The sound is muted and I cannot get it to play until I deactivate eARC. Anyone else have this problem? I fiddled with this for a few hours to no avail.

According to affected users, the Sonos Arc issue has something to do with the eARC function. This causes audio cuts and deletions for users of Frame TV and other Samsung smart TVs.
In response to one of these user complaints, a Sonos developer added that he was working on this issue and that this issue could be due to the new eARC feature supported by Samsung smart TVs from 2020 onwards, a feature that is not supported on 2019 and earlier models.
This just like over a year ago and even after this detailed explanation of the support, it seems like the same problem continues to plague users and social media platforms are littered with user reports.
Some affected users report that the only solution to fix the issue when the audio is completely muted is to restart the setup. Some suggest getting an Arcana, but that effectively adds an additional $ 300 to the setup, a purchase that isn’t easy to justify.
We’ll continue to keep an eye out for this Sonos Arc issue for Samsung Smart TV users and update as we get more information or possible workarounds, so stay tuned.
