Katy Perry brought a taste of Playerhis new concert residency in Las Vegas at Studio 8H.
Against an elaborate backdrop festooned with towering, colorful mushrooms, Perry strutted and swung around like a sexy (cherry-flavored, obviously) Jolly Rancher in patent leather assless chaps and a mushroom fascinator. Perry is definitely back on his bullshit in 2022.
The first song she performed was “When I’m Gone”, an energetic new electro-pop creation co-written with Swedish DJ Alesso. But attention quickly shifted to Perry’s backup dancers, lining up behind her dressed as giant phallic mushrooms, blinking occasionally Alice in Wonderland-esque signs that read “Eat me.”
The pop singer returned to the stage in a puffy powder blue skirt for a slower, more plaintive rendition of her excellent 2019 hit, “Never Really Over.” The dancing phalluses took a break for this part, leaving all the attention to Perry’s powerful voice.
