SAMSUNG electronics said yesterday it would double production capacity for advanced chips by 2027 as the world continues to struggle with tight supply.
“There has been progress [in raising prices] this year, and the costs are reflected, the direct impact of the current atmosphere will be minimal,” said Moonsoo Kangexecutive vice president of Samsung Electronics foundry business.
Supply competition has reached a boiling point globally, from both consumers and suppliers. This means that the governments of the EU, the United States and the UK scrambled to strategize on how to secure supply and capitalize on demand.
Samsung is currently building a chip production facility in Taylor, TXwhich should start its activities in 2024.
“American customers are particularly interested in the production in United Statesfor the stability of the supply chain,” Kang said, adding that the new taylor the site was ripe for expansion.
