Neymar went one step closer to becoming Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer as he defied a laser to score against Tunisia on Tuesday.
The South American side secured a resounding 5-1 victory in their last game before this winter’s World Cup, and the Paris Saint-Germain superstar got on the scoresheet, netting a penalty in first half.
Playing the match on his home ground, the Parc des Princes, the Brazilian star was no stranger to his environment.
And Neymar was right on the spot when called, coolly driving the ball into the bottom corner despite fans at the stadium trying to fend him off by aiming a laser in his eyes.
The PSG striker’s goal marked the third of the night for his country, with former Leeds star Raphinha opening the scoring and Tottenham man Richarlison then doubling their advantage shortly after Tunisia equalised.
Raphinha was back just before half-time, with Pedro sealing the deal in the 74th minute.
Neymar’s penalty marks his 75th goal in 121 appearances for his country, making it just three goals clear of record holder Pele’s 77.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Neymar told Telefoot: “God willing… I hope to pass it [Pele].
“I’m going to talk to my teammates about it and tell them to help me score so I can finally make it happen.”
His next chance to top the Brazilian icon’s tally will be at the World Cup in Qatar from November, with his first chance against Serbia in the group stage opener.
The 30-year-old has also been in fine form for his club, scoring 11 goals in as many appearances in all competitions this season with Les Parisiens.
