Motorola has officially confirmed a new date for the debut of the Moto Razr 2022, bringing the company’s launch event for its next foldable smartphone back on track after a last-minute postponement.
Chen Jin, General Manager of Lenovo China for Mobiles, revealed via his Weibo profile (opens in a new tab) that Motorola will finally unveil the device on August 11, alongside two other devices (via GSMArena (opens in a new tab)). The company’s next flagship device, the Moto X30 Pro, and a new device called the Moto S30 Pro will also debut on the same day.
The Lenovo-owned company was supposed to hold the event on August 2 in China, as it had previously promised, only to cancel it hours before. Motorola did not say at the time why it had postponed the launch.
Jin’s new Weibo teaser features three devices side-by-side, along with information on their launch schedule. The next phones will officially debut on Thursday, a day after Samsung unveiled its own answer to the best foldable phones.
It should be noted that the upcoming event is for the Chinese launch of the phones only. Motorola has yet to confirm anything regarding their worldwide release.
We’ll have to wait until launch day for Motorola to reveal all the details of its next foldable device. That said, thanks to numerous leaks lately, the Moto Razr 2022 may have fewer surprise elements to excite fans when taking cover. The foldable phone is confirmed to be powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, like most of the top Android phones this year. The chipset will supposedly be paired with up to 18GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage.
Optically, the phone is said to feature a dual rear camera setup featuring a 50MP primary shooter and a 13MP secondary sensor that will serve as both an ultra-wide and macro camera. A 32MP front camera will supposedly handle selfies.
The Moto X30 Pro will also sport all the hallmarks of a flagship device, including a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, up to 12GB of RAM, up to 256GB of internal storage, 6.67-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 144Hz, and a 200MP camera featuring Samsung’s ISOCELL HP1 sensor. If true, the phone will be the first to feature such a large camera sensor.
Meanwhile, little is known about the Moto S30 Pro. According to the Digital Chat Station (opens in a new tab), it’s supposed to rock a 6.55-inch curved AMOLED display. It is also said to feature a Snapdragon 888+ chipset and a 50 MP main camera.
