The McLaren 765LT represents one of the brand’s most powerful vehicles ever built using the already impressive 720S, McLaren has added some of the best bits from the Senna Hyper Car to create a truly sensational machine. McLaren has a long history of building improved long tail models of their vehicles that incorporate performance improvements developed over the life of the vehicle. To find out exactly how McLaren was able to amplify the 720S supercar, Jack Rix of Top Gear is here to give us an overview.
Before we dive into the sensational 765LT, let’s remember how impressive the McLaren 720S is. Powered by a 4.0-liter 710-horsepower twin-turbo V8, the 720S can sprint from 0 to 60 in just 2.7 seconds and reach 100 mph from an idle stop in 5.3 seconds. The 720S is universally hailed as one of the best McLaren products to date, combining the brand’s clinical focus on speed with soul.
So how do you improve a McLaren 720S? Well, as Jack of Top Gear points out, there is a clear formula for building a special edition supercar; add power, reduce weight, increase support and multiply the price. The McLaren 765LT can follow this classic formula but the results are unlike anything we’ve seen before.
McLaren rummaged through their garbage cans and found pieces of Senna lying around. The natural step was to add them to a normal McLaren 720S to give birth to something revolutionary. The essential components such as the brake discs, the seats and the cylinder head gasket come from the Senna. Fortunately, McLaren has not only raided their spare parts inventory. There is a fully titanium exhaust, revised transmission ratios and no mats similar to a Ferrari F40.
The McLaren 765LT has once again proven that McLaren knows how to build some of the craziest cars on the road. We can’t wait to see this machine in action on a track.
