Katy Perry once screamed and ran out of a studio after seeing a Russell Brand lookalike.
The 37-year-old singer was married to comedian Russell, 47, for a year from 2010 to 2011, and BBC Radio DJ Scott Mills has revealed he thought it would be funny to surprise Katy with a lookalike of her then-husband during an interview. but he didn’t know that they had marriage problems.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he said: “I thought it would be fun to hire a Russell look-alike. I found a guy who when he came on really looked like Russell and could do the voice. So we sent a fake Russell into the studio – and Katy completely freaked out and ran away.
“We didn’t know they were having relationship issues, so it was a little misjudged. But I remember hearing her say, ‘I’m not going back,’ multiple times.
“I begged her to come back. She’s mean and did it, but she said, ‘You have to listen to my records for the rest of your life on the radio to make up for that.’ annoying on Radio 1.”
Katy and Russell tied the knot in a lavish wedding in India in October 2010, but Russell filed for divorce a year later.
Russell previously said, “I really tried in this relationship. I have nothing but positive feelings for her.”
However, Katy revealed that Russell had told her via text that he was filing for divorce.
She said: “He’s a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him. Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying that he was going to divorce on December 31, 2011.”
Explaining the problems in their marriage, she said: “[He was] hysterical in some ways. Until he started making jokes about me and he didn’t know I was in the audience because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows. So. Hysterical up to a point.

“I mean, I have to claim my own responsibility for things. I admit that I was often on the road. Although I invited him over and over again, and tried to come home as much as possible. You saw that in the movie [Katy’s documentary] Katy Perry – Part of Me.
“It hasn’t been edited to leave out images – there was no image of him.
“At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men want an equal, but then they get that equal and they’re like, I can’t handle the equal. He didn’t’ I don’t like the atmosphere where I was the boss of the tour. So it was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting.
“I felt very responsible for the ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily divulge as I keep it locked in my safe on a rainy day. I let go and I said to myself: ‘This is not because of me, it is beyond me’.
