Cristiano Ronaldo missed Manchester United’s clash with Aston Villa, much to the frustration of YouTuber Speed.
The American player traveled from his home in Cincinnati, Ohio to catch a glimpse of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in the club’s Carabao Cup clash at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo was expected to start the cup clash against Unai Emery’s side but was a surprise absentee from the United squad sheet when he dropped an hour before kick off mail.
With no place in the starting XI or on the bench, fans speculated where the 37-year-old was, before Ten Hag confirmed to MUTV that Ronaldo was missing the clash through illness.
As the cold winter approaches, it’s not uncommon for residents of the UK to feel a bit uncomfortable, but for the American YouTuber, the news of his absence was absolutely heartbreaking.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “I’m crying right now, I flew all the way to Manchester to see Ronaldo and he’s not playing,” followed by two crying emojis.
Although he missed meeting Ronaldo, Speed did meet United legend Patrick Crerand, despite not knowing who he was.
Introduced to Crerand as a “Manchester United legend”, Speed said: “Are you a legend? Have you played here? Expect, [David] Beckham?! What is your name, my brother? »
After learning who he was, Speed said: “You played for Man United, baby. What, in 1720?
Luckily, Crerand saw the fun side as the YouTuber was quickly whisked away before the game.
