In the mid to late 2000s, Hannah Montana dominated Disney Channel and the world of teen sitcoms. It seemed like wherever you went there would always be someone talking about the show or picking up Hannah Montana merchandise. The hype led to Hannah Montana: The MovieNext The Lizzie McGuire movie as the second theatrical film to be based on a Disney Channel Original Series. After four seasons and nearly 100 episodes, Hannah Montana ended in early 2011.
Disney and the world have changed a lot since then, but Hannah Montana went on to mark an important part of entertainment history. There may never be another show like this again. With the show now in the past (but available to stream on Disney+), where does the cast stand now? Let’s see where the cast of Hannah Montana it’s today.
Miley Cyrus
Of all the members of the Hannah Montana cast, Miley Cyrus remained most in the public eye. When the final season began filming, Cyrus told reporters that she couldn’t continue to base her “career on six-year-olds” (via Reuters). Moving away from Hannah, she garnered both new fans and critics as she entered her “Wrecking Ball” era. Miley’s musical style has evolved over the years, with one of her most recognized vocal performances in Mark Ronson’s “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart.”
Although Cyrus focused more on her music than her acting career, she nevertheless continued to appear on television. In 2016, she appeared on Amazon Crisis in six scenes as Lennie Dale and in 2019, was Ashley in the fifth season of Netflix black mirror. Cyrus also had a small voice role as the artificial intelligence, “Mainframe”, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. His last album, plastic heartswas released in 2020 and included the song “Prisoner”, featuring Dua Lipa.
Emilie Osment
Since leaving the role of Lilly Truscott, Emilie Osment has been in several films including No way Jose and Love is all you need? Osment has been more active on television, voicing Ruth Cochamer and several other characters in family guy. She also had leading roles in Almost Family and those of Netflix Smart enough and Netflix’s animated comedy horror series, Impasse: paranormal park. The The Big Bang Theory prequel, Young Sheldonfeatured Osment as Mandy McAllister in its fifth season, a recurring role that would later become a starring role in Season 6.
Michael Musso
Michael Musso was well known for hosting Disney’s PrankStars and play King Brady on Disney’s A pair of kings. Following a DUI charge against Musso, both shows eventually ended quickly. This likely had a negative impact on the career of Musso, who only appeared in a few low-key film projects during the 2010s. Films like The sand and Character weren’t really mainstream. Musso continued his working relationship with Disney with the animated series, however. Milo Murphy’s Law and 2020s Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace vs. the Universe. Before Hannah Montana finished, Musso released a debut album (and currently his only album) under Walt Disney Records. He continued making music, releasing a song called “EXPERIENCE” with his brother in October 2022.
Jason Earle
When Jason Earle played Miley’s older brother, Jackson Stewart, in Hannah Montana, he was already in his thirties. He is now slowly approaching fifty. Almost all of Earles’ TV appearances have been in Disney projects, including his role as Rudy Gillespie in Kick for DisneyXD. Although he was very likable and charming, audiences didn’t get to see Earles in much else. More recently, Earles guest starred in the third season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series like Dewey Wood.
Billy Ray Cyrus
Billy Ray Cyrus was featured in a remix of Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road”, which reached No. 1 on the 2019 Billboard Year-End Hot 100 chart. An active country singer-songwriter, Cyrus released five studio albums in the 2010s. In 2014, Cyrus had a guest appearance on the infamous Sharknado 2: The Second as Doctor Quint. He was also recognized for directing the American sitcom, always the king, as the “second best” Elvis impersonator Vernon Brownmule. Cyrus’ engagement made headlines recently, and according to his fiancée, Firerose, the pair met many years ago on the set of Hannah Montana (via POPSUGAR).
Moises Arias
No longer the manager of Rico’s Surf Shop, Moises Arias embarked on new and exciting projects. At the end of the 2010s, Arias impressed with his performances in five feet away, The Wall of Mexicoand Monos. In 2020, Arias told a coming-of-age story with his character, Mateo Andres, in Blast. He also appeared in The King of Staten Island with Pete Davidson. Arias has explored many different genres and arguably had the most variety in his filmography on this list. With more movies on the way, Arias’ acting career seems far from over.
