The man suspected of fatally shooting an innocent father who was visiting his child at upstate Marist College has a lengthy criminal record and was denied bail on Monday.
Roy Johnson has been charged with second-degree murder in Sunday’s murder, in which the unidentified father was shot during an apparent fight over coffee in the lobby of a Poughkeepsie Courtyard by Marriott hotel.
Johnson was sentenced to detention without bail due to the seriousness of the case – and two existing crimes, police said at a news conference Monday.
The suspect’s alleged partner in crime, Devin Taylor, has also been charged with two counts of second degree felony possession of weapons. Taylor’s bail was set at $500,000 cash or $1 million bail.
Cops have also remained silent about the identity of the innocent victim killed, who they say was an innocent bystander amid the bloody mayhem and whose family has requested confidentiality.
The two suspects in the case were already known to law enforcement from past clashes, authorities said.
Officials said they would not release any further information about the two suspects’ alleged criminal past.
The incident rocked Marist College, which had relatives visiting for family weekend at the time.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and we offer the full support of the Marist community. We remain in contact with local authorities and will keep our community informed of any updates,” the school told The Post in a statement.
