- Mr John Sutherland, Towie Street, Tain, has been appointed Concierge of the Tain Royal Academy.
- Miss Anderson, originally from Gourock, has taken up her post as an assistant teacher at Nigg Public School.
- Mr. Donald Mackay has been appointed Keeper of the New Cemetery and Gravedigger of the old Nigg Cemetery.
- Harvest operations are off to a good start at Easter Ross. In Nigg, most farmers started cutting last weekend.
- Ardgay is eager to have Tain’s phone extended to the parish and an attempt is underway to find guarantors.
- On Saturdays the Nigg Golf Course is well attended by the officers and men of the fleet, as very few land during the week.
- The wedding took place at St Vincent House, 78 Great King Street, Edinburgh, of Miss Tottie, only daughter of the late Balilie and Mrs W. Munro of Tain to Mr WB Deas, younger son of Mr and Mrs WB Deas45 Dudley Avenue , Leith .

- In an excerpt titled ‘Snow on the Ben’, the newspaper reported that the previous week Ben Wyvis had had a light snow cap after a night of extremely cold weather, one of the first in several years, and after a long early July period of excellent Highland weather.
- A heavy frost on Saturday evening, however, “wreaked havoc with many colorful displays in local gardens of the most vulnerable flower types, especially dahlias”.
- Dingwall and District Choral Society, which for the past few years has brought so much pleasure to the music-loving section of the community under the able and very successful guidance of Mr. N. Cairns, Principal Music Teacher at Dingwall Academy, who has now given up the formation and direction of the choir, will for this year be under the direction of the Reverend Charles Robertson, the popular young clergyman of Kiltearn Parish Church, who is also a well-known local singer.

The runaway success of Elton John’s tribute record to Diana, Princess of Wales has sparked a mini-boom for a high-tech factory in Easter Ross.
Zonal Audio Plastics in Invergordon is working around the clock to produce plastic CD sleeves for the new release of Candle in the Wind as demand increases.
Zonal has exhausted its inventory of approximately 1,000,000 maxi CD single cases and is producing approximately 250,000 CD covers per day to meet demand from Polygram record manufacturers. Over eight million copies have been pre-ordered worldwide.
Alf Heise, managing director of Zonal, said: “We are exhausted and waking up around the clock to keep up with demand.”
The company would help secure 35 people currently employed at premises in the Castle Avenue industrial estate.
The company’s announcement laid off 10 people six weeks earlier, but in a different area of production. The company was running at full speed in the meantime.
