The main antagonists of the new Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 are Android 17 and Android 18, and players will be fighting them a lot.
In the ruins of West City, the only real enemies of Future Trunks are Android 17 and Android 18. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot puts players in the same dire straits as Future Trunks, battling for survival against the superiority of the androids. As the main antagonists of DLC 3, players will quite often fight this evil duo as they progress through the new story, so it helps to understand their fighting techniques and style. Knowing how each of the androids fight separately and how they work together will be key to coming out on top, especially in fights where players are supposed to win.

Trunks – The Warrior of Hope is the third and final DLC for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and this pits the titular warrior against the two mighty androids. There are several story encounters that include these two opponents as enemies, but they also appear as random encounters and a new training mod. Since Future Trunks doesn’t have any allies to fight alongside them, these battles usually end up being two on one as well, so there’s a lot to consider when they go head-to-head. Everything players need to know to be victorious can be found below.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 – Moveset Androids 17 and 18
The first step in winning a battle is knowing the enemy, and that is also true here. The two androids have an array of different attacks that the player will want to familiarize themselves with. These attacks are different from those used by androids in Cell Saga.
Android 17
- Wild combo – Android 17 rushes at the player and performs a three-hit melee attack combo against the player.
- Hell storm – Android 17 loads and fires six yellow energy homing bullets at the player.
- Fence – Android 17 generates a green barrier around it. The player cannot damage it and hitting the barrier deals damage and sends them flying.
- Wild blaster – Android 17 summons countless energy beams and shoots them in the direction of the player.
- Variable sensor – Android 17 shoots three to five balls of green energy. If they hit the player, they will be knocked out on the spot and susceptible to damage.
Android 18
- Sadist 18 – Android 18 teleports to the player and delivers a devastating combo. Blocking the first shot cancels all movement.
- Palm crush – Android 18 spins and hits a 360 degree area around it.
- Hell Lightning Striker – Android 18 targets the player and loads an attack. She fires missiles with a random flight pattern that loosely follows the player.
- Hell nova – Android 18 loads an explosive attack.
- Ultimate Blaster – Android 18 fires a volley of big pink Ki explosions at the player.
The two androids will sometimes work together, flying side by side and making their respective colors shine. When this happens, they prepare to launch a combo attack on the player. This can be interrupted by a Ki explosion, but will deal heavy damage if he logs on.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 – Android Story Battles
In total, there are at least five battles with androids as part of the story. For the first half of these battles, players will use Future Gohan as a playable character, sometimes with Teen Trunks as a support character. After reaching the second episode of the DLC, that changes. Now fights against Android will take place with only Trunks in the party. This makes things more difficult for a number of reasons, especially in the beginning when Trunks isn’t as powerful as Future Gohan was.
Once players have completed the main DLC story, they can speak to Bulma in order to enter the training room. From there, players can again challenge Androids 17 and 18. It will also be a fight with only Future Trunks in the party, so players need to prepare for it. It is also set at level 65, one of the top level challenges in DLC 3 of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 – Android Assault
A new mechanic in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 is the introduction to Android Assault Battles. During parts of the story, areas of the map will be patrolled by former Red Ribbon Army drones. If players get too close to one of these drones, a counter will fill up to indicate that the player is being scanned. Once this is full, the androids will locate Trunks and Gohan and begin their assault. However, this differs from a regular battle in an important way.
While players are supposed to win story mode battles by reducing enemy health to zero, Android Assault battles have a different victory condition. Before starting any of these battles, two battle conditions will be displayed on the screen. Completing either will make the battle a success, as Gohan and Trunks are just trying to escape. The combat conditions change each time the player triggers the drone alarm, but they usually involve dealing enough damage to the androids, stuning them, or landing a certain number of hits. These fights always put the player in control of Future Gohan rather than Trunks.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 – How to Defeat Androids
Having to take on both androids at once is a daunting task, but there is a simple trick that will make it that much easier. Generally speaking, androids will always take on one of two roles. An Android will go on the offensive, preferring to stay engaged with the player and rely on attacks and melee techniques. Meanwhile, the other Android will stay in the background, providing fire support and using techniques that immobilize or impede movement and interrupt combos.
The important thing to remember is that these roles are not defined. Throughout the fight, Android 17 and 18 will change their approach, but they will always fall into one of those two roles. In order to defeat them, the player must focus their attacks on the most aggressive enemy. Instinct will likely tell players to focus on one Android until the fight turns one on one, but ignoring the enemy when playing aggressively will make the attempt to finish the other way too difficult. Using this strategy will make a seemingly impossible fight much more bearable.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is now available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
