Former Liverpool star Didi Hamann has targeted Arsenal after being knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich.
The Gunners’ season is in danger of collapsing with a defeat against Aston Villa which saw their Premier League title take a hit and their European exit was just as disappointing.
This is a Bayern team that has underperformed for most of the season, losing their Bundesliga crown for over a decade.
Hamann believes Arsenal have not improved on last season and claims the signings of David Raya, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz have not had the impact people think they would.
Hamann told talkSPORT: “You have to ask yourself if this team, and I know it’s a very young team, is capable of winning a big title.
“I think they have a very good defense, but I’m not sure about the goalkeeper. I don’t think we win a big title with a goalkeeper who doesn’t give me confidence.
“It was his mistake arriving 40 meters from his line in the first leg, it changed the whole tie. Then obviously they brought in Rice and Havertz, I don’t think they improved from last season.
“Xhaka went to Leverkusen and is having a brilliant season. I look at Declan Rice and people tell me he’s the best central midfielder in Europe, but I haven’t seen him yet.
Of Havertz, he said: “Well, I certainly don’t think he’s a centre-forward. I think he’s better when he comes from behind and makes those late runs.
“When you play without a center forward, and that’s clearly not the case, if everyone comes towards the ball it becomes very crowded and even more so when a team stays behind like Bayern Munich did .
“You see with Haaland, even though sometimes he doesn’t do much when the team has the ball, he always occupies two defenders and that creates space for someone else.
“Arsenal don’t have that. When you arrive at a stadium with 10 or 15 minutes to go and you throw balls into the box, there is no one to direct the game. I think his best position is attacking midfielder.
“To play without a center forward, I think you have to be an exceptional team. Arsenal are definitely not that good.
