Happy Monday everyone, especially to Giovani Lo Celso.
Another dark week in an old dark season, friends. I can’t wait for it to be over if the truth is told.
Okay, let’s try to get through without crying, huh?
At Turf Moor…
BURNLEY BLUES
It gets really harder to write every week. The spurs will be my death.
Watching them is like watching your Nan blow out the candles on her 94th birthday cake. She gives a good bloody blow, but nothing comes out.
The worst part is that we all saw it coming a kilometer away. I really expected nothing else from the game. Individual errors, lack of bite in the front and no real plan. Seems familiar?
The only slight positive was our second half. As Toby Alderweireld hinted in his post-match interview with Spurs TV, if we can wear this second half in the match against RB Leipzig on Tuesday, we cannot ask for much more than that.
We have absolutely nothing left in the tank and the end of the season must really hurry.
I LOVE ERIC DIER, ERIC DIER LOVE ME
Surprisingly, the following paragraphs will not deal with the events of Wednesday evening. That being said, if you choose a fight with Eric, you’d better bring it up.
No, it will rather concern Dier the player, who in the last week has shown a real change of pace compared to the man we saw for most of the season.
The frustrating thing about losing to Norwich is that, in fact, I thought, defensively, that we were pretty good. Jan and Eric were solid, Davinson was the whirlwind that he still is, and Serge did what Serge did … the best?
But Eric really made a difference. He still has a long way to go to get back to his form of 2016, but with summer approaching, he’s doing his best to stay.
OH MOUSA DEMBELE
Well, it’s been a sad week for everyone who loves the game, Mousa Dembele announced his retirement from international football at the age of 32.
I certainly went a little crazy on Twitter on Saturday night when a match like this really shouted for the Belgian beast – I really don’t think that we are on the same side since his departure in 2019.
And while I’m at it, it’s really not surprising to see that our midfielder stability has fallen off a cliff since he and Eriksen moved to new pastures. I find it naive on the part of the club to think that we could maintain the level of performance to which we are accustomed without any of them. A euro without Mousa will not be as good.
DELE’S LANDMARK
I am desperately trying to find the positives of our recent plight, so be indulgent with me. Despite the Englishman’s rather flat performance, it was a historic evening for young Dele at Turf Moor as he scored his 50th goal in the Premier League.
Don’t worry, it’s an incredible achievement at just 23 years old.
In fact, he became the youngest English midfielder to reach this tally, beating Frank Lampard and David Beckham by almost three years. I really love him and it frustrates me to see him struggling as much as recently. He is forced to play out of his position without any support and the grief he feels is rather unjustified in my opinion. Stay with him.
Long live then. COYS.
