Despite the current challenges facing the entire automotive industry, Hyundai Motor Europe ended the third quarter of 2022 with strong sales figures, according to the latest data from the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA).
* Hyundai engine secured a market share of 4.8% in Europe in the first three quarters of 2022, up 0.6 percentage points from the same period in 2021
* The company sold 395,649 units in the EU, EFTA and the UK in the first three quarters of 2022, posting a growth of 3.2% compared to the same period last year
* Zero-emission vehicles represent 16% hyundai total sales in Europe
In total, hyundai succeeded in selling 395,649 units in the EU, EFTA and the UK from January to September 2022posting a growth of 3.2% compared to the same period last year, outpacing the market.
In the first three quarters of 2022, the company achieved a market share of 4.8%, up 0.6 percentage points from the same period in 2021. This makes hyundai one of the few automakers to show consistent growth throughout 2022 so far.
hyundai maintains its leadership at the level of mass manufacturers. With regard exclusively to fully electric vehicles, hyundai sold 64,192 zero-emission vehicles during the same period, representing 16% of total sales. hyundai the best-selling electric vehicle in Europe stay the KONA Electric – sold 30,981 units since January of this year, following its production launch at hyundai HMMC production plant in the Czech Republic in 2020.
Develop electrification
The company is confident that its share of ZEV model sales will continue to grow over the next year. This year was the first full year that IONIQ 5 has been on the market. The all-electric midsize SUV, which sold 28,014 units in the first to third quarters of 2022, has several prestigious accolades to its credit, including the 2022 World Car of the Year. hyundai recently introduced its Electrified Streamliner IONIQ 6, which will go into production for Europe at the end of the year.
Despite the great progress hyundai has already achieved in electrified mobility, the company will continue to invest to drive innovation in the field. Hyundai N, the company’s high-performance sub-brand, recently unveiled two “rolling laboratory” concepts – RN22e and N Vision 74 – which will serve as the basis for the continued development of future-oriented zero-emissions technologies.
These figures illustrate the progress hyundai wide range made in Europe, especially given the challenges the entire industry is currently facing. We continued to expand our leadership in electrification when we launched IONIQ 6. Not only will our Electrified Streamliner further diversify our sales mix, it will also attract new audiences. Although hyundai is not insensitive to industry trends, we will strive to stay at the forefront of the zero emissions transition.

Record market shares in European markets
In addition to the 4.8% market share in the EU, EFTA and UK, hyundai also recorded significant growth in its key markets of Spain and the UK in the first nine months of 2022.
The Spanish market saw a 14% increase in sales comparing the first three quarters of 2021 to those of 2022. Spain also achieved a record market share of 7.5%, up 1.4 percentage points from 2021.
Meanwhile, in the UK, hyundai also hit a new high, reaching a market share of 5.3%, up 1.3 percentage points from 2021. This represents a 21% increase from the equivalent January-September period of Last year.
Comparing the first nine months of 2021 to 2022, Germany shows a growth rate of four percent. Currently, Germany holds a market share of 4.1%, surpassing the 4% mark five times in the past six months.
hyundai market share in France in the first three quarters of 2022 rose to 3.2%, up 0.5 percentage points from a year ago. Sales increased by 1% compared to the first nine months of 2021.
Made in Europefor Europe
hyundai success in Europe can be attributed to its customer-centric development and production. More than 70 percent of hyundai cars are made in Europefor Europe at the company’s HMMC and HAOS production facilities in Czech Republic and Turkeyrespectively.
Having recently undergone a series of upgrades, HMMC is one of the most modern automotive manufacturing plants in Europe. Earlier this year it became hyundai first plant in the world to completely convert its electricity consumption to renewable energy. HMMC produces 350,000 vehicles a year in nearly every type of powertrain variant, including low-to-zero emission models.
