There have been several recent leaks of new Surface products that could be announced at Microsoft’s big hardware event on October 2, including Surface Pro 7, Surface Laptop 3, and a Surface 2-in-1 laptop powered by ARM. Now, leaker Evan Blass spilled details about Windows 10X, which would be Microsoft’s fork of Windows 10 designed for dual-screen devices.
Of course, a dual screen Surface product (code name “Centaurus”) would have made its debut at the big Surface event. Based on Blass’ tweet, it will run on Windows 10X, which was previously called Windows Lite.
Although the tweet does not share any software images, it does indicate that Windows 10X is designed to work on dual-screen and folding-screen devices. Compared to standard Windows 10, 10X can run applications in “containers”. As for what that means, 10X can leverage virtualization to run the majority of applications on the Internet instead of running them locally from hardware.
The edge will cover the big Microsoft event tomorrow, October 2, starting at 10 a.m.ET, so log in to see if that and any other leaks happen. Hopefully Microsoft will have a few more surprises in store, so stay tuned.
