The coronavirus threat has disrupted the entire economy of China and is now slowly impacting the global economy. The virus, which was first detected in the city of Wuhan in China, has now crossed borders affecting more than 70 countries. But China remains the most affected country in the world. This is why the big names in technology in the country and in the corporate world like Alibaba Group Holding Ltd – ADR (NYSE: BABA), Tencent, Baidu and Huawei have prepared to support efforts to counter the threat of the coronavirus.
Tech Giants working in silence
The tech giants in China have already started working in the health sector using software tools based on artificial intelligence and cloud computing. While the big names in America love Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) were quite noisy about their efforts, Chinese companies decided to work in the background in silence. However, the country’s government now wants all of its tech giants to team up to fight the coronavirus epidemic.
This is why big names like Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei have started to use their surveillance capabilities so that the government can track down the victims of this deadly virus and also isolate those who have been in contact with those affected. In addition, these tech giants are trying to scale up efforts in the health sector by providing the necessary tools.
Alibaba Introduced Online Clinic Services
China’s largest e-commerce platform entered the healthcare industry and introduced online clinic services on its popular Taobao and Alipay apps, especially for users in Hubei Province, where the Coronavirus comes from. The service allows people to consult doctors online. Now the same service has also been extended to Beijing. China’s largest search engine platform Baidu has also launched an online health consultation platform that offers the service for free.
Tencent has also launched an online consultation platform where people can discuss their health issues with doctors. In contrast, Huawei has developed a GrandOmics Biosciences tool to understand the genetic makeup of the coronavirus.
