FLINT – Hamady’s bid to return to the Division 3 State Women’s Basketball Championship game got off to a flying start Wednesday night.
The Hawks opened the tournament by beating host LakeVille 57-9 in the district semi-final behind 17 points, 10 rebounds, four interceptions and two blocks by Aryana Naylor.
Xeryia Tartt added 13 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five interceptions for the Hawks, who brought their record to 19-2 with their sixth straight win. Kennedy Adams had 11 points and five assists.
“I was happy,” said coach Keith Smith, whose team lost in the state final last year. “We did a good job keeping the turnover below 10. Sometimes when you have wide margin wins like this, girls tend to be careless with the ball.
“If we want to progress in the tournament, we have to make sure that we take the basketball car and not turn it over. I was glad the score was out of balance that we did a good job taking care of the basketball. Turnover, we only had four. ”
The Hawks will play Beecher at 7 p.m. Friday for a place in the regional semi-final.
