New mobile features from YouTube usually debut on iOS before coming to Google’s main operating system a few months later. the last example finally sees the Android client being able to filter videos in subscriptions by channel.
The carousel at the top of the Subscriptions tab now allows you to tap on a channel to see only the videos of this creator in the stream below. The content appears in reverse chronological order and is more convenient than visiting a channel, then navigating to the Videos tab to see a similar list.
This is equivalent to filtering your subscription flow, only for this channel. Because the list of your subscriptions stays at the top, you can more easily “surf” from one channel to another in order to catch up on their latest downloads.
Once the channel is displayed in subscriptions, you can easily select another profile to load these videos. YouTube equates experience to channeling surfing, with the carousel hidden when you scroll. During this time, to display the profile, you can simply press “Display channel” at the top right. Going back will bring you back to the whole flow.
This channel subscription filter was first deployed to iOS in late May. It is just heading to the Android client and should be widely deployed. At launch, Google provides a useful blue prompt to notify users.
Meanwhile, iOS users already have access to other new filters in subscriptions, including “Today”, “Continue watching”, “Unsupervised” and “Live”. This should happen on Android in the future.
