When you have the same Microsoft account set up for Microsoft teams and Skype for Business, you may see the following error message – Your instant messages and calls go to Microsoft Teams. To resolve this issue, you will need to change Microsoft Teams settings, especially the Coexistence The settings.
Your instant messages and calls go to Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams offers collaboration, chat, calling, and meeting features. Skype for Business offers the same. As such, the capabilities of one service may overlap with another for a given user. It is recommended that a user always run both clients to communicate natively.
Coexistence mode activates this ability. It allows Teams to work with Skype for Business as two separate solutions offering similar and overlapping functionality.
- Go to the Teams admin center page and sign in.
- Expand organization-wide settings.
- Select the option to upgrade teams.
- Develop the mode of coexistence.
- Select islands.
- Press the Save button.
- Restart Microsoft Teams.
Let’s cover the above steps in a bit more detail!
Open the Microsoft Teams admin center page in your browser.
Log in with the Admin account.
In the left column, expand Organization-wide settings.
Choose the Upgrading teams option.
At the top of the Teams upgrade page, expand the Coexistence mode drop-down menu.
Now to fix the ‘Your instant messages and calls go to Microsoft Teams” select the Islands option.
The action once confirmed uses both the Skype for Business and Teams apps.
If you want to only use Skype for Business for calls and messages and exclude Microsoft Teams, select the ‘Skype for Business only ” option.
When finished, press the Save to confirm the changes.
The message “Your instant messages and calls are going to Microsoft Teams” should disappear permanently, and you should be able to make calls from either Microsoft Teams or the Skype for Business app.
