Turns out Charlie Puth is a Taylor Swift fan.
In a video circulating on TikTok on Friday, September 23, the 30-year-old singer-songwriter is seen performing Swift’s breakthrough hit “Teardrops on My Guitar” for a crowd in New York City. He stops halfway and says, “Sidebar, that has nothing to do with anything, but Taylor Swift is the queen of these types of deals.”
He then gives Swift’s examples Without fear track “Fifteen” and her 1989 single “Blank Space”, which has equally emotional chords. “It’s a classic chord progression that everyone has used, but it makes it different every time.”
He concluded by joking, “His album comes out two weeks after mine, so be sure to listen to mine first.”

by Puth Charly arrives October 7, while Swift’s Midnights releases October 21. While describing her self-titled third album, Puth recently said Billboard, “Maybe it’s a cliché for an artist to sit on that white couch and be like, ‘Oh, this is my most personal work.’ But that’s for me because I never had an entire work that was my personality with a melody attached to it.” He added that some of his favorite songs on the record are “Smells Like Me” and “There’s a First Time for Everything.”
“I want people to know these songs, like they’ve heard them before, because they’ve heard them before,” he explained.
On the sequel for him, the “See You Again” singer shared, “I feel like I’ve always been, until now, the artist you just heard on the radio or you listen wherever you listen to music No one ever cared about my personal life so I’m exacerbating that I take the sandpaper and rub the wood [laughs] It’s a strange analogy.
