1923, the series that tells the origin story of the Dutton family of Yellowstone, has been renewed for a second season at Paramount+.
Legendary stars Harrison Ford, 80, and Helen Mirren, 77, play Jacob and Cara on the Taylor Sheridan show.
The project is set at a time “when pandemics, historic drought, and the end of Prohibition are afflicting the Mountain West and the Duttons who call it home,” Paramount+ notes.
News of a renewal comes just weeks after the December 2022 premiere of the first season.
At the time, the show made headlines for its debut with 7.4 million viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Series Update: 1923, the series that tells the origin story of the Dutton family of Yellowstone, has been renewed for a second season at Paramount+
The first episode — which featured Helen’s Cara Dutton killing an intruder and more — had four cable airings, three on Paramount Network and one on CMT.
Following its success, Tanya Giles, Director of Programming at Paramount Streaming, said: “Anchored by the incredible vision of Taylor Sheridan and the performances of legends Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, we were confident that this next chapter in the story origin of the Dutton family would resonate with the public.’
“We are thrilled with the record-breaking early response to the first episode and look forward to bringing this incredible journey of perseverance, heartbreak and adventure to more audiences in the context of Mountain West,” she added.
1923 featured Ford in his first major television role, portraying Jacob Dutton alongside Oscar winner Mirren as his wife Cara Dutton.
The cast also includes Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves and Jerome Flynn.
1923 is Yellowstone’s second prequel series, following last year’s 1883 starring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton.
Sheridan also has another current spin-off titled 6666, set at Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, which is set to debut in 2023.
Yellowstone launched its fifth season in mid-November, with 10.3 million viewers on Paramount Network, CMT, TV Land and Pop.

Harrison told THR last year how he was introduced to 1923: “I had met Taylor, who gave me a very brief glimpse of what he had in mind, and I went on faith. and my experience with Yellowstone, 1883.”
He raved about the director: “He has produced a work of incredible ambition, scale and scope. [and] cinematic ambition. Taylor considers each of these episodes to be an hour-long movie. And that’s the product we get.
Weeks before a second season was announced, the iconic actor said he hoped to continue the series.
‘I was very satisfied and encouraged and challenged by the work at hand. We have another season, I hope, to get to know this character and see him in different circumstances. But I’m having a good time. I really appreciate it,” he said last December.
