Yazmin Jauregui back where it all began

She’s not lying, if you’ve ever been to Mexico City you know that the street food here makes street food in other cities beg for forgiveness. But at least for the next few hours, tortas and elote will have to wait for her to complete the weight cut for her tilt against Sam Hughes at UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs. Royval 2.

The scene will of course be much bigger on Saturday. The Mexico City Arena is sold out and the crowd, made up of Jauregui’s family, friends and compatriots, will be in full force by the time she makes her main walk to meet Hughes. It will be quite the audience for a crucial fight, one where she hopes to bounce back from a defeat in her last fight against Denise Gomes. It was the first loss of her professional career, and it ended the undeniable momentum she had established in her first two UFC wins over Istela Nunes and Iasmin Lucindo. She’s been touted as one of the brightest prospects at 115 pounds, and she’s determined not to let that slip away.

“Obviously, no one wants to experience defeat, no one really wants to be defeated. I learned a lot about myself in this fight. We unfortunately have to taste the bitter taste of defeat in life. And that happened to me . “But we learned a lot of things we can do in training for this fight and the fights to come. Also, the mental aspect, which is so important for the fight, to be ready,” she explains through the interpreter.
