- Xiaomi is now the number one smartphone brand in Europe, according to a report.
- The news comes after several reports from the second quarter of 2021 revealed that it was the number two brand in the world.
Xiaomi saw a ton of momentum in 2021 as it took Apple’s second place in global shipments and recorded impressive annual growth. The good news doesn’t end there, as a report on European market share found that the Chinese brand is now number one in Europe.
Tracking company Strategy Analytics reports that Xiaomi reached number one in Europe with 12.7 million units shipped or 25.3% market share in the second quarter of 2021. Samsung, second, was just a little behind with 12 million units shipped or 24% market share. It’s also worth noting that Xiaomi achieved 67% annual growth compared to a 7% year-over-year decline for Samsung.
Apple now sits in third place with 9.6 million units shipped and 19.2% market share. It also achieved growth of 15.7% compared to Q2 2020.
Meanwhile, Oppo (5.6%) and Realme (3.8%) were in fourth and fifth places respectively. Both brands are booming in Europe, with Oppo posting 180% annual growth and Realme achieving astonishing 1,800% annual growth.
Realme first entered the European region in 2019, focusing on countries like Spain. But it has since expanded significantly to cover France, Italy, UK, Russia and more in 2020. So what we’re essentially seeing is growth from next to nothing. So it will be interesting to see what kind of growth Realme can sustain once it becomes a more established name.
