Possible loophole for the application of sanctions discovered at kick-off
While many fans have expressed appreciation for the innovative kick-off of the XFL, a potential flaw could simply have been discovered regarding the application of sanctions. Following a personal defensive fatal ball foul after a basket, the penalty was applied at kick-off, which moves the kicker 15 yards, but does not move the position of other players on the field. In reality, the kicker now has a more difficult task ahead of him: trying to hit the ball between the home team’s 20-meter line and his goal line with shorter ground for work.
XFL officiating supervisor Steve Strimling said on ABC that the receiving team, who committed the foul on the basket, could not be penalized as it should be, but law enforcement favors always think strategically when deciding to give a deep kick or to declare a side kick.
