WWDC 2020 (or Worldwide Developers Conference 2020 to give it its full name) is the next annual show dedicated to Apple software.
This is where we will likely get our first official preview of iOS 14, along with various other software updates, but new hardware may also appear, potentially including the iPhone 9 and a new iPad Pro.
So there is much to expect. That said, the question of whether WWDC 2020 will take place, given the spread of the coronavirus, is also a serious problem.
Below you will find all the information about her chances, when she will likely be detained if this happens, and what Apple might show and advertise.
When will WWDC 2020 take place and will it continue?
Apple has yet to confirm the dates for WWDC 2020, but it still starts on the first or second Monday in June, i.e. June 1 or 8 this year. It’s likely to continue until Friday, but Apple’s main speech – which is usually the location of the main announcements – will likely be on the first day, so one of the two dates above.
This is if WWDC 2020 happens. Normally, there is no doubt, but the coronavirus has already caused many events, including MWC 2020 and Google IO – to be canceled, so the same could happen at WWDC 2020.
At the time of writing, we have no information about Apple’s plans, but the company generally confirms WWDC dates in April, so this will likely give an indication of the event’s continuation.
We suspect there is a good chance that this will not happen – or at least not in its usual form, but the keynote and announcements part may well happen via live streaming, even if the actual gathering does not. is not. So even if WWDC 2020 doesn’t happen, chances are Apple will still be rolling out iOS 14 and up in early June.
What to expect at WWDC 2020
As WWDC focuses on software, the most likely announcements are all software related, but there is a significant amount of hardware that could also appear. The following are all possibilities.
iOS 14 and iPadOS 14
While we’re not sure that all of the things below will appear at WWDC 2020, iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 appear to be safe bets, as Apple has a long history of announcing new mobile software when event.
That said, it’s not when the final versions of the software arrive on phones and tablets. Instead, Apple will likely announce many key features and changes and release an early developer version.
This, although intended for developers, will likely be accessible to users wishing to get through a few hoops, although a public beta will likely follow anyway, with the finished software likely to be released in late September alongside the iPhone 12 .
We haven’t heard much about iOS 14 features yet, but there have been rumors of a redesigned app switch and support for Apple’s AR glasses for a long time.
watchOS 7
We will also most likely have our first official preview of watchOS 7 during WWDC 2020, but as with iOS 14, it will likely not be finished and launched until the end of September, where it could land alongside the Apple Watch 6.
We haven’t heard any rumors about watchOS 7 yet, but we will likely do so in the weeks and months to come.
iPhone 9
The iPhone 9 has been the subject of many rumors and we are confident that it will land soon, but the question is how soon. There is a good chance, it is rumored, that it could land in late March, before WWDC 2020, but elsewhere, we just heard that it would land in the first half, which would make Apple a candidate.
As with the show itself, it’s also possible that the coronavirus affected the development and production of the iPhone 9, so even if a launch in March was once on the table, it may not be. not now, which again makes WWDC a real possibility.
As for what to expect from the iPhone 9, it is a relatively affordable handset that could also be launched like the iPhone SE 2. Rumors suggest a design similar to the iPhone 8, with large frames and a physical home button with a built-in touch fingerprint identification scanner.
Specifications include a 4.7-inch LCD screen, A13 Bionic chipset (like on the iPhone 11), 3 GB of RAM, a single-lens rear camera and 32 GB or 64 GB of storage.
New iPad Pro 2020
We are expecting a new iPad Pro, the iPad Pro 11 landing in 2018. But the next model, like the iPhone 9, could actually land in late March according to reports, so we are not at all convinced that it will land in WWDC 2020.
But if not the case in March – especially with the coronavirus release schedule – WWDC seems to be the next obvious candidate.
The new iPad Pro 2020 would have three rear cameras, compared to only one on current models, but other than that, we don’t know much about it.
We’re talking about an Apple slate with a miniLED screen (which could improve the display quality), but reports suggest that the landing will arrive in late 2020, so if the next iPad Pro arrives at or before WWDC, then there might be too early for that technology.
macOS 10.16
It’s not only the mobile software that we will likely see during WWDC, the next version of macOS is also likely to be unveiled. We don’t know anything about macOS 10.16 yet, but according to previous versions, it – like the other software presented – will probably be revealed during WWDC 2020 but will not be fully launched until at least September.
AirTag
Rumor has it that Apple has long worked on a rival Tile, possibly called AirTag, which is a small device that you can put in a wallet or backpack (or attach to other personal belongings), and then follow if they disappear.
We have heard that it could land in the first half of the year, so WWDC is a possibility. That said, it was not specifically linked to WWDC, so we are not at all certain to see it there.
HomePod 2
Apple is probably working on a new HomePod, with reports suggesting it could be more compact, possibly launching as the HomePod Mini.
But whether it’s the HomePod Mini or HomePod 2, there is a good chance that a new model will land in 2020, and WWDC 2020 is a likely place for the announcement, especially since the original HomePod has been announced. during a WWDC (although it didn’t hit stores long after).
Apple TV and tvOS 14
Mention of a new Apple TV 4K model was recently found in tvOS software, so a new Apple TV might be on its way, and it’s possible that it might land at WWDC.
Whether or not the new hardware does, there is also a good chance that new software, in the form of tvOS 14, especially given that tvOS 13 was presented at WWDC 2019, followed by a launch in September.
New Mac hardware
We mentioned that new Mac software should be announced at WWDC. Well, the new Mac hardware is too. At WWDC 2019, we got the Mac Pro. During WWDC 2020, we could potentially see a new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, or updated versions of any other Apple desktop or portable hardware.
- Later in the year we expect the iPhone 12
