True to everyone’s terrible luck over the past year, WrestleMania has had a rough start.
The show’s first 35 minutes were “on hiatus” after weather warnings swept through the Tampa Bay, Florida area.
With concerns over thunder in an open stadium, WWE relied on improvised promos to spin them around after Vince McMahon was the first to welcome fans to WWE with his roster behind him on stage.
When the action finally began, it was Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley who started things off with the WWE title on the line.
McIntyre entered monster pop, but it was Lashley who largely controlled things from the start.
Big men would end up trading big power moves in the ring, from Drew’s kiss in Glasgow to Lashley’s spinebuster, the match was as physical as expected.
McIntyre pulled off an unusual dive on the outside, but back in the ring Lashley continued to try to get the Scotsman into the Hurt Lock and ultimately after MVP distracted Drew before a Claymore Kick, the champion did.
Two McIntyre champions fought as hard as they could, but he would eventually fade into submission and Lashley would take the win.
Many expected WWE to put McIntyre in this match so he could win the WWE Title once back in front of the fans. Both of his reigns were in front of no fans and the temptation to give him this big moment must have been strong.
But Lashley, who got a ton of almost unexpected momentum after taking the belt from The Miz and fans are finally hoping Brock Lesnar is in his future!
