England’s Gabriella Cowley recorded a career best result at the Italian Open finishing second, one stroke behind winner Lucie Malchirand.
French amateur Malchirand, 18, finished seven below par for her first victory in her second round of the Ladies European Tour.
Cowley, 25, ranked 585th in the world, finished with six under alongside Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom.
Scottish Michele Thomson and Welsh Chloe Williams are tied for fourth.
It is also a career best result for Williams, 26, who is in his second season on the Tour.
“Right now it’s hard to figure it all out, but tied for second is always a great week and I’ll take a lot out of it,” said Cowley.
“I thought it was my time, but it wasn’t,” added Cowley, who improved on her seventh place at the Jabra Ladies Open in 2019.
Malchirand finished with two birdies in a row on the last two holes to seal the victory.
