WASHINGTON- George Washington’s women’s basketball will hit the road for the last time on its non-conference roster when it travels to Texas to take on TCU. The whistleblower between GW and the Horned Frogs is scheduled for Monday at 7:30 p.m. EST. Coverage is available live on ESPN+.
EYES ON TWENTY
Last time out, GW topped Ohio in a blistering 74-57 win at the Charles E. Smith Center. The victory came thanks to two huge offensive nights of Nya Robertson (24 points) and Jayla Thornton (23points).
Robertson and Thornton are the first pair of GW teammates to each score more than 20 points in a game since Lexi Martins and Caira Washington accomplished the feat at La Salle in February 2017.
300 RECOGNITIONS
During his hard-hitting night against Ohio, Jayla Thornton buried a season-high seven threes, including his milestone 300e triple, which came with three minutes left in the second quarter. Of the 300 graduating students, 23 came this year with the Buff & Blue, while 275 came during Thornton’s four years at Howard and the other four during his one-year stay at Syracuse.
IN THE HEART OF TEXAS
Monday will be the 22nd of GWn/a all-time game against an NCAA D-1 opponent from Texas. To date, George Washington holds a solid 13-8 career record against Lone Star State teams.
Monday will also be GW’s second meeting against TCU and will be the first time the two sides meet in Fort Worth. GW was victorious in the only previous meeting, 82-77, which took place in November 2006 at the BTI Classic in College Park, Maryland.
IN SEARCH OF HORNED FROGS
TCU enters Monday’s contest at 3-4, but the Horned Frogs have had a tough time lately, having lost three of their last four contests.
Despite its record, TCU has played consistent defensive play this year. The Horned Frogs have only allowed an opponent to score 70 points once this season and they’ve been particularly stingy from three-pointers, limiting their opponents to just 28 percent shooting from downtown.
