The Windows Subsystem for Android update is currently only available for testing Windows Insiders
San Francisco: Microsoft now offers a new version of the Windows Subsystem for Android that runs all your apps on the latest Android 12.1 and makes apps feel more at home on a PC.
The Windows Subsystem for Android update is currently only available for Windows Insider testing.
The latest update also brings improvements to how Android apps integrate with Windows. Pop-up messages from apps can now appear as Windows notifications, and the taskbar will be able to indicate whether an Android app is accessing your microphone or your location, The Verge reported.
Microsoft also says Android apps should behave better after your computer wakes up. Instead of restarting, they should just pick up where they left off.
Microsoft says it has completely redesigned the Settings app you use to manage the Windows Subsystem for Android, consolidating settings and providing a “cleaner user experience.”
It also made various improvements to how Android apps can access your computer’s camera and even improved networking capabilities so you can set up smart home devices using an Android app running on your computer, the company said.
Scroll wheel support and the built-in keyboard should also be improved after the update, Microsoft said.
Significant improvements are also available for Dev Channel Insiders running Windows 11.
Other improvements a user will get after updates flicker reduction when apps are restored from a minimized state, new video hardware decoding (VP8 and VP9), keyboard fixes screen in apps and overall improved stability, performance, and reliability.
Updates also come with some limitations. “Some apps that were previously available may be missing from the experience, not launching, or working incorrectly for various known issues. We’re working with our partners to fix these issues as soon as possible,” Microsoft said.
