Winona man injured in fatal crash in northern Minnesota – KROC-AM

Deer River, MN (KROC AM News) – A man from Winona was among five people involved in a fatal traffic accident in northern Minnesota.

State Patrol said the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Friday morning in rural Itasca County, near the town of Deer River.

The crash report says a vehicle driven by Jacob Starck, 25, of Deer River, lost control on a slippery road, crossed the other lane and collided with an oncoming pickup truck.

Starck was not wearing a seat belt and was killed.

The truck was driven by Thomas Speltz, 43, of Trempealeau, Wisc. He suffered non-life threatening injuries, as did his three passengers. They have been identified as Eric Speltz, 46, of Winona, Joseph Speltz, 38, of Blaine, and Robert Speltz, 73, of Blair, Wisc.
