Microsoft has released Windows 11 Cumulative Update KB5010386 with security updates, performance improvements, and fixes for an LDAP bug.

KB5010386 is a required cumulative update because it contains February 2022 Patch Tuesday security updates for vulnerabilities discovered in previous months.

Windows 11 users can install today’s update by going to To start up > Settings > Windows Update and clicking on ‘Check for updates.’

After installing the KB5010386 update, Windows 11 will change its build number to 22000.493.

For the past few months, Microsoft’s Cumulative Update changelogs have not provided detailed information about what has been fixed.

Microsoft says the only non-security fix in update KB5010386 is for an LDAP issue, causing operations to fail.

“Addresses an issue that causes a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) modify operation to fail if the operation contains the SamAccountName and UserAccountControl attributes,” explains the release notes for update KB5010386.

“The error message is “Error: 0x20EF. The directory service has encountered an unknown failure”.

Last week, Microsoft released a preview update to Windows 11 that fixed Windows 11 File Explorer performance issues when switching, browsing, or selecting files. Even though Microsoft didn’t list it in the changelog, these fixes are also included in today’s Windows 11 Cumulative Update.

Otherwise, Microsoft states that there are no known issues with this update.

Finally, Microsoft updated the servicing stack to address bugs or issues that prevent Windows Updates from installing future updates correctly.
