Williams might as well ‘go home’ if spares situation changes its F1 approach, says Albon

The Thai driver and his teammate Logan Sargeant have had a difficult start to the season, with Williams lacking a spare chassis and lacking spare parts.

With Sargeant forced to sit out the Australian Grand Prix due to his teammate needing to take his car, and the American crashing out during opening practice in Japan, things didn’t work out helped a lot in the Suzuka race when Albon hit the barriers. after a first-round clash with Daniel Ricciardo.

Williams has gone all out since Suzuka, with both cars fitted with the latest front wing introduced in Japan. Additionally, Albon will ride with a revised Halo fairing.

But although aware that the spares problem is not yet fully resolved, Albon said the team cannot afford to change its racing mentality as it aims to score its first points in the championship. the year.

Asked by Autosport how difficult the current situation was, Albon replied: “You do your racing without really thinking about it, if I’m completely honest.

“Obviously it’s there, but as soon as you start thinking about the lack of rooms, or the lack of anything, you might as well stay home.

“You have to attack the weekend like any other weekend. You can’t treat it any differently. You have to be at the limit to feel what the limit is, and you have to find a balance for the car.

“It’s one of those where you have to kind of block your brain and just keep running normally.”

Albon had nothing but praise for the way Williams worked to equip both cars with as many new parts as possible.

“It took a huge effort,” he said. “Obviously we were behind with the falls, and it’s no secret that we were already behind before the falls.

“So it’s another great job, as always, and we have to rely on the Grove staff to pull things together – as they continually do.”

“And that’s very, very important, especially before a sprint race, with all the possibilities of everything that can happen this weekend, you kind of want to be as prepared as possible.

“Races like this, where they are so unknown, are an opportunity for teams like ours.”
