Machine Gun Kelly may have an MTV VMA nomination, but the singer and his fiancee Megan Fox chose not to travel to Newark, New Jersey, to catch tonight’s show. Kelly is just up for a category, Best Alternative Song, for her collaboration with Willow, “emo girl.” It’s understandable, given the limited number of nominations, why Kelly chose to stay put.
Their absence means the couple won’t be performing a new awards show together. The two have always stood out with their stunning coordinated outfits. Fox spoke to vogue earlier this year on how her style changed after meeting Kelly.
“Before, it wasn’t something I focused on or thought about,” she began. “Because as an actress I had been categorized or categorized as a sex symbol. And the publicists come in and they bring in a stylist and it’s about dressing more seriously, so the world takes you more seriously as an actor. But they didn’t dress me the way I liked to express myself. So I kinda gave up on fashion. I was like, fuck, I don’t care, whatever you put on me because I’m not going to like it anyway.”
“Until I met him,” she continued. “Musicians have so much freedom to express themselves in the way they dress. They can be so much more flamboyant than actors usually can. Before I got famous, everyone who knew me always knew that I would always wear a really crazy piece, and everyone would say “you dress weird”. And it wasn’t until I was molded and had to dress in a way that I gave up. And being with him, obviously, he’s slightly eccentric in the way he dresses and that freed me up to express myself more. And he helped me meet Maeve Reilly, my stylist.
