Defending champions France are aiming for their second consecutive World Cup title in Qatar this winter.
They take on England in the quarter-finals on Saturday and all the action will be live on talkSPORT.
Throughout the tournament so far, the Blues’ badge may have caught the attention of the fans.
Their kit includes a distinctive rooster badge and has been seen on their national jersey for years.
Why does France have a rooster on its badge?
The rooster that appears on the French football shirt is called the Gallic rooster.
It is a symbol that finds its origin due to the ancient Latin name of France which is Gaul. This led to the inhabitants of this region being called “Gallus”, which also means rooster in Latin.
People would treat this as a joke towards the French people, but eventually it would stick and French kings adopted the rooster as a symbol of courage and bravery.
Its use then became even more widespread after the French Revolution.
It was seen as a symbol of the people who founded the country and as Republicans rejected a royalist narrative in favor of the true roots of France, the rooster established itself as a symbol representing the origins of the country.
During World War I, it was later used as a symbol of France’s resistance and bravery on the battlefield.
Its continued rise to prominence has led it to remain popular ever since, and the rooster has remained a symbol of modern France.
It can now be seen on every football and rugby kit in the country and it also features on postage stamps, war memorials and logos.
