Abby Lee Miller is committed to doing better.
Earlier this week, two parents and a producer from Dance moms shared their work experiences with the founder of the Abby Lee Dance Company.
In reality, Adriana Smith took on Instagram and claimed that the reality star made controversial remarks about her daughter Kamryn Smith when she was seven.
On Thursday afternoon, Abby spoke for the first time on the allegations and apologized to those she had injured.
“I really understand and deeply regret how my words have affected and hurt those around me in the past, especially those from the black community,” she wrote in her statement posted on Instagram. “For Kamryn, Adriana and everyone I have injured, I am truly sorry.”
She continued, “I realize that racism can come not only from hate, but also from ignorance. Whatever the cause, it is harmful and it is my fault.”
Earlier in the week, Adriana went on social media and revealed that she was not friends with Abby.
“A statement from her that comes to my mind so far during my time on DMS8 is:” I know you grew up in the HOOD with only a box of 8 colored pencils, but I grew up in the country club with a box of 64 – don’t be silly. “” said Adriana on her public social media account. “This my friends is not something or a statement that can be googled. In a Facebook post shared with E! News, old Dance moms producer Kori Kegg responded to Adriana’s allegations.
“THIS broke me while I was working on the show and pregnant with my own black daughter. Looking back, I too should have left. In an email to E! New, Camille bridges also recalled times when she felt Camryn Bridges was treated unfairly because of her race.
E! News contacted Abby for comments on Adriana, Kori and Camille’s claims and received no response.
For now, Abby has told her disciples that she will try to make it a lesson.
“Although I cannot change the past or remove the harm I have done, I promise to educate myself, learn, grow and do better,” said Abby in her statement. “Although I hope to one day win your forgiveness, I recognize that words alone are not enough. I understand that it takes time and a real change.”
