The closest thing Williams has come to a UFC press conference has been with fellow and former NHL star Ryan Whitney in previous snake drafts. Williams may not have been able to crack the code to win the war of words with Whitney, but that never deterred him.

“With Whitney it’s hard, because I can’t say anything to Whitney,” Williams said. “He’s got all the money in the world, he played a professional sport, 6’4”, he’s funny, everyone loves him. There isn’t an ounce of weakness I can attack like a parasite. I don’t know him well enough where I could find this stuff. I so want to find this thing so I can attack it with it. He’s got such a wit that it’s hard to argue with him over words, but if I had the ability, I’d have no problem doing it.

Call it blind faith, call it Ryan Whitney prep, but despite his lack of public speaking skills, Williams thinks he’d excel in the pre-fight mic wars that UFC stars face. are used to.

“I would be all for the trash talk,” Williams said. “Part of what makes the UFC great is the pageantry before and after the fight, and after all the soap opera. There’s no one off the top of my head that I’m like, ‘Whoa, don’t get into a war of words with him.’ But the whole vibe of trash talk as a whole is something that I kind of enjoy.
