When does the January transfer window open and close? Premier League clubs will be able to sign players shortly after the World Cup

The World Cup is now coming to an end, with the final in Qatar taking place next week on Sunday, December 18.

This means that all domestic leagues, including the Premier League, will soon return.

Clubs will be watching their goals and some will have kept tabs on the impressive performances in Qatar.

But when can they start making deals?

When does the window open?

The January transfer window will open on Sunday January 1, 2023.

Premier League, EFL, WSL and Scottish clubs will all be able to start making transfers from that date.

It’s the same for clubs in France and Germany, but the opening date differs for those in Italy and Spain.

Juventus and Real Madrid are among the clubs that will have to wait a day longer than the majority of Europe to sign their players.

When does the window close?

The January transfer window will close on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

This deadline is the same for all major leagues in Europe, including the Premier League, EFL, WSL and Scottish leagues.

However, cut-off times vary. Clubs in all UK leagues except the WSL and Scotland will have their deadline set at 11pm.

Scottish leagues will be able to make transfers until 11:59 p.m.

It’s more complicated for the Women’s Super League because the deadline for domestic transfers is 5 p.m., while international transfers can be made until midnight.

La Liga has also set its cut-off time at 11 p.m. while in Germany the window will close at 5 p.m. and in France it will be 11:59 p.m.
