But Les Bleus and Kylian Mbappe will prove to be the toughest test yet for Gareth Southgate’s men after easily beating Poland 3-1.

It will be England’s first meeting with the reigning world champions since a friendly in 2017 and the anticipation is already building.

This World Cup quarter-final will take place on Saturday, December 10.

England v France: Squad rosters and news

John Stones was substituted against Senegal with what appeared to be a slight hamstring adjustment, but hopefully he will be fine for Saturday.

Raheem Sterling is unlikely to be involved after returning home to be with his family, with England unsure if he will return to

Armed robbers invaded his home and the Chelsea man decided to return to England to be with his children, who were at home when the burglary happened.

Ben White has also returned to England to sort out a personal matter and is unlikely to return to Qatar.

Meanwhile, France will be without Lucas Hernandez and Karim Benzema but will have a fully fit squad apart from that, so could name an XI unchanged from whoever beat Poland.

Gareth Southgate speaking on talkSPORT about France: “He (Kylian Mbappe) is a world class player. He has delivered great moments in this tournament and in previous tournaments.

“(Antoine) Griezmann is now over 70 consecutive games for France, and he’s a phenomenal player. We also know Olivier Giroud, and they have exceptional midfielders.

“Everywhere you look they have an incredible depth of talent in every position, and it’s a huge test, but we’re really looking forward to it, and it’s a big challenge.”
