What Happened When Billie Eilish Met Princess Kate?

Nine-time Grammy winner Billie Eilish’s interaction with the “lovely” British royal family has become the focus of a new viral video after footage of the star recounting her royal encounter resurfaced on the site social media platform TikTok.

Eilish came face to face with senior members of the royal family in 2021, when she attended the London premiere of the James Bond film. No time to die. The singer performed the title song used in the film, created in collaboration with her brother, Finneas O’Connell.

Princess Kate, Prince William, King Charles III and Queen Camilla (when they were still Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall) attended the premiere alongside the singer and the film’s stars.

In a 2022 interview with Australian radio hosts Ryan Fitzgerald and Michael Wipfli (known to their audiences as Fitzy and Wippa), Eilish said she was aware of her adherence to royal protocol before meeting Kate and the other members of the royal family after the screening of the film at the Royal Albert Hall in London. .

“I was studying what the label was supposed to be,” she said. “I was prepared to curtsy. I was prepared not to shake hands, I was prepared not to ask questions and not to speak unless spoken to.”

Ultimately, she revealed, the royals themselves were relaxed during the interaction and there was no reason to worry about any formality.

“I was so worried and they all came in and said ‘what’s up, how are you? How are you?’ And I was like, ‘oh my God,'” she said, before adding, “We thought it was so big, like we had to say ‘these are the rules, these are the rules ‘.And they come in and [it went out the window] which was great. They were so nice and charming. »

Photographs of the singer meeting Kate were widely shared at the time of the premiere and the event received global coverage, with the princess receiving particular praise for her choice of outfit.

Kate made a dazzling impact in a gold sequin maxi dress with a dramatic matching cape element designed by Jenny Packham. The design was praised by the fashion press, commentators and social media users linking it to the glamor of the “Bond girls” of the action film franchise.

Footage from Eilish’s interview was reposted on the official TikTok account fitzywippakate on April 10, quickly going viral and gaining over 400,000 views in 24 hours.

The clip received over 69,000 likes and numerous comments, some of which praised both the singer and the royal family.

Eilish won an Oscar for her No time to die song in 2022, as well as a Golden Globe and a Grammy Award.
