When the Korean automaker unveiled the Kia Sportage 2022 in full this week, it wasn’t hard to gauge the public reaction. Some were upset by its polarizing design, while many appreciated Kia’s proposal to create an entirely different shape for a next-gen model as part of its shift to the ‘Opposites United’ design language that began with the Kia. EV6.
Crisp lines and several unprecedented design cues are present in the Sportage’s final design, but the biggest downside is probably the white paint color of the press images that showcase all of the accents.
Again, here is a presentation video of the new Sportage from TV Woopa on Youtube. While we couldn’t quite catch one thing the presenter was saying (unless you can), the pictures give us a better look at the new model as seen in the metal. More importantly, the Sportage is here in black, which in all honesty suits the loaded design very well – at least that’s how I see it.
The LED boomerang DRLs stand out up front, while the black reflections from other lighting elements blend well with the body color. You’ll also notice that the Sportage in the overview video has a different set of wheels. Unlike the press photo, the rims look more conservative, but we think this is just one of the wheel options depending on the trim level.
Either way, the 2022 Sportage will be fully unveiled this year and will likely hit the market right after that. Kia’s mom about its global availability at this point, so we don’t know when we’ll be able to see the compact crossover with our own eyes.
As for the powertrains, Kia said those details will arrive in the full model reveal. However, no date has been set yet, but we will always stay tuned.
