West Ham maintained their 100% record in the UEFA Europa Conference League and won Group B with a 1-0 victory over Silkeborg, despite a poor pass from Pablo Fornals.
Manuel Lanzini’s first-half penalty gave the Hammers all three points at home, but it was a lackluster affair.
The match came to life in the 24th minute when the hosts were awarded a free kick for a foul on striker Michail Antonio.
The Jamaica international appeared to have shoved the ball out of play but exploited a clumsy dash from Denmark keeper Nicolai Larsen to win the foul.
Lanzini stepped in and went home without breaking a sweat, but it was about as exciting as it gets.
There were chances for West Ham but they were denied with just five of their 15 shots on target.
And baffled talkSPORT reporter and famous Hammers fan, Ian Abrahams.
He told Kick Off: “They should have been 2-0 up, but Pablo Fornals missed a foul shot minutes into the second half.
“Literally he was passed the ball by a defender who didn’t see him there and from 15 yards he didn’t even hit the target.”
In the end it didn’t matter and David Moyes’ men took victory on a fairly dismal night in east London.
“Let’s face it, there’s not a lot here tonight,” Abrahams said 30 minutes from time. “The game didn’t mean much and it’s very expensive to come to football, as we already know, so the atmosphere is bad, the game is bad, it’s like a training exercise.”
