West Ham linked with shock move for £60m-rated Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and reportedly a ‘massive statement’ from the Hammers

West Ham would make a ‘massive’ statement if they could sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton.

The Hammers have been linked with a shock move for the Toffees striker.

The Sun claims Everton want to recoup some of the money from their years of overspending with a £60m price tag imposed on the 24-year-old.

The report adds that the fee would be too high for West Ham at the moment, but if that changes they will be frontrunners.

The striker has featured just four times for the Toffees this season, scoring three times, due to injury concerns.

Ex-Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino thinks it would be a huge statement of intent from West Ham if they could get him through.

“David Moyes will know his qualities, obviously, and has seen him develop as a player. He loves playing as a centre-forward,” Cascarino told Weekend Sports Breakfast.

“We talked about the death of number nine, he’s probably the best header on the ball among the strikers around. He’s terrific in the air.

“He started the season well, certainly the campaign before scoring a lot of goals.

“He is the best and he is still at a tender age.

“To judge him yesterday is impossible. It’s unfair over 90 minutes of play and he has clearly come a long way.

“He clearly didn’t know.

“It’s a massive statement if West Ham have been able to push this past the line where they are as a club.

“He and Antonio could play together. They’re both ready to run down the halls and both ready to butt heads with each other.

“I see this as a great decision.”
