West Ham crashed out of Europa League despite facing unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen

West Ham have been knocked out of the Europa League, ending any hopes of further success in Europe.

West Ham needed to overcome a two-goal deficit in the Europa League second leg against Bayer Leverkusen and managed an early goal through Michail Antonio.

But Xabi Alonso’s men stepped up after the break and second-half substitute Jérémie Frimpong ended the game with a late strike which deflected into the net.

This leveled the scores and forced the Hammers to need two goals again with moments remaining, ending any hopes of progressing in the Europa League.

And as a result, David Moyes’ chances of winning another European trophy have ended.

The Scot brought glory to the club after West Ham won the Europa Conference League last season, their first European trophy.

And there were dreams in the London Stadium that they could make a comeback and potentially take them to the Europa League final and do it all again.

However, they came up against arguably the favorites to win the competition, with Liverpool crashing out against Atalanta.

Alonso’s side have already won the Bundesliga for the first time in their history and remain unbeaten in all competitions after 44 matches.

This means the German team’s dream of going the entire season without defeat in all competitions remains on the agenda in what would be an unprecedented campaign.

As for Moyes, this is probably his last game in charge of West Ham in a European match.

talkSPORT understands the 60-year-old is likely to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.

There is a deal on the table for the Scot but the feeling is he is ready to move on.
