Paris Saint-Germain defender Thilo Kehrer is heading to West Ham United, but he was Sevilla sporting director Monchi’s first choice.
Kehrer is set to join West Ham as they have agreed a fee with the French champions for him of €12m plus add-ons.
The central defender is in London for a medical examination as he is set to reinforce the backline at the London Stadium and could debut as early as Thursday.
West Ham weren’t the only side interested in the centre-back as Spanish side Sevilla, who are involved in the Champions League this season, are also keen on him.
Despite now being linked with West Ham, Kehrer was top of Monchi’s list for his centre-back signing, according to the Spanish outlet. Report.
Sevilla, however, took the lead and landed another centre-back from the league champions, Tanguy Nianzou from Bayern Munich.
The La Liga club lost Jules Kounde and Diego Carlos in the summer and therefore wanted to strengthen their central defensive zone.
Kehrer arrives at West Ham having won numerous trophies with Paris Saint-Germain and last season he made 27 Ligue 1 appearances.
