Pep Guardiola sarcastically declared Manchester City “will be champions” after Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were knocked out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, as he said in his press conference.

It was a night to forget for the people of the capital as many London teams were knocked out of the League Cup.

Chelsea were beaten 2-0 by Guardiola’s Man City, while Spurs suffered a surprise defeat, by the same scoreline, to Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest.

Mikel Arteta hasn’t suffered many defeats this season but Brighton swung at the Emirates and booked their place in the next round – Crystal Palace and West Ham also pulled out.

Anyway, when Guardiola was asked to share his thoughts on knocking out Spurs and Arsenal, he offered the following response.

“We will already be champions, thank you,” Guardiola said.

“We’re convinced it doesn’t matter, I said that from day one, it doesn’t matter what game we play. Friendly game. EFL Cup. Premier League. Champions League or FA Cup.

“We play to win the game and that is the standard we are going to set at this club. Consistency in every competition. We have to do our job.

MAN CITY AND LIVERPOOL FAVORITES

In years past, Man City have completely dominated this competition, so after Liverpool won it last season, they should probably add another one to their cabinet.

Jurgen Klopp’s side also booked their name for the next round seeing off League 1 side Derby County in quite difficult circumstances as they had to win on penalties.

Either way, the duo above are probably the favorites to reach Wembley, especially considering how many European sides have already exited at such an early stage.
